Before you dive right in to starting your vegetable container garden, you should think about a couple of things.
First, you should plan your garden. Think about what kind of vegetables you might want to grow. You can also grow other types of plants such as flowers, herbs and trees to give your garden some pizzazz. Some great types of vegetables to start out with are tomatoes, peppers, lettuce, and beans. Then do some research regarding these plants - how much sunlight do they require, how often to water the plants? etc. As our blog grows, in very near future we will be able to address these questions and many more. Next think about where you garden is going to grow and what kind of climate they will live in. Will they be in boxes on your window sill? On a roof? A patio? Indoors? This could have an effect on what types of plants you decide to grow.
Next determine what kind of budget you have. Are you willing to spend a little bit of money on seeds, soils, and containers? Or will you take a more frugal approach to getting your garden started. Check out your local nurseries and garden centers. Most will have the products you need to get going. Some also have container gardening classes that you might want to be a part of.
Once you determine these things, it's then time to get your hands dirty! In the upcoming days we will be posting about how to choose containers, soil, fertilizers, vegetables and other resources related to vegetable container gardening. So stay tuned!
